Visually arresting - especially in the final flight of the hero and heroine from society - this bleak vision of the future where childbirth is not allowed is less successful in its interiors, with Geraldine Chaplin contributing another wan performance as the wife who is determined to disobey the world government and have her baby. Michael Reed's colour photography is first-class, but the film it graces is all style and precious little substance.
