The TV film which introduced the successful action series of the Eighties. The title refers to an advanced combat helicopter and the technically minded might care to note that its specifications include a twin turbine driven rotor capable of exceeding Mach One, the addition of two more turbines if needed, and 14 firepower options ranging from 30mm cannons to nuclear-tipped Shrike missiles. The principal character (played by Jan-Michael Vincent) is an unorthodox investigator who lives in a lakeside cabin high in the mountains and whose eccentricities include serenading the eagles by playing Prokofiev on his Stradivarius cello. In this initial story, David Hemmings plays Dr Moffet who has created Airwolf but then promptly steals it. The investigator's job, of course, is to get it back. Brisk, no-nonsense adventure fare.
