Typical Ben Hecht script (he also co-directed with cinematographer Lee Garmes) about an ill-assorted group of people at a Broadway café. His dialogue provides ripe opportunities for master character players Thomas Mitchell and John Qualen (one of the latter's best roles) which are eagerly seized. Douglas Fairbanks Jr and Rita Hayworth don't somehow seem to quite belong, but the whole thing has a definite offbeat charm.
