Tough little film noir from Warner Brothers, grittily directed by Andre de Toth and full of Hollywood's shadiest underworld types, including Jay Novello, Ted de Corsia, James Bell, Timothy Carey and (here billed as Charles Buchinsky) Charles Bronson. Gene Nelson, best known as a dancer, turns in a decent job of straight acting, and Phyllis Kirk is attractively plucky as his wife. You may have trouble following detective Sterling Hayden's dialogue, as he talks with a toothpick in his mouth for most of the film! The American title of this film was the less apt Crime Wave.
