With a cast of Hollywood (Anthony Quinn, Eduardo Ciannelli), Italian (Sophia Loren, Ettore Manni), French (Henri Vidal, Claude Laydu) and Greek (Irene Papas) players, producers Carlo Ponti and Dino De Laurentiis were heavily reliant on the dubbing for the international version of this, one of their first big epics. The `cast of thousands' of fur-clad extras looks impressive thundering across the screen and Quinn plays the title role, according to one contemporary reviewer `with simple, uncomplicated vigour'.
