This limp Ruritanian romance is given likeability by the charming playing of Sophia Loren and the persuasive direction of Michael Curtiz, the Hungarian-born director who made such American classics as Captain Blood, Angels with Dirty Faces and Casablanca. La Loren looks dazzling and Chevalier finds time to warble a Viennese waltz. On the down side, John Gavin is a weak leading man and the wonderful Angela Lansbury is largely wasted.
