A story of a juvenile prank that has many repercussions, this film makes use of Southend settings and is presented in an intriguing if not always realistically convincing style. It all starts when an 11-year-old boy named Leo happens to observe that real-life police officers are quite unlike the efficient heroes he has seen on the screen. An idea dawns in his mind. How this strange idea is put into effect, and the events that follow it, provides the basis of the story. Although the two leading adult actors have star billing, the two youngsters (Richard Thomas and Peter Clark) really have central roles: neither has acted before (they were discovered by the film's casting director) but they have sufficient personality and naturalness to make this of no consequence. The film was produced by Barry Hanson (who was responsible for the notable Thames Television production of The Naked Civil Servant).
