Michelangelo Antonioni's much-discussed film about a trendy London photographer (David Hemmings) who comes to believe he may have photographed a murder. The boldly sexual role played by Vanessa Redgrave, the exuberant nude sequence involving a group of young models, and the music score, which combined rock and modern-jazz idioms, were all among the factors that contributed to the film's success. How you interpret its story is part of the fascination, but once it gets down to the business of that story, it's a gripping experience.
