Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine star in this sombre, bitter account of an actor's fight to reach the top, and of a cynical producer who tramples over everyone in sight. The well-constructed script is by James Lee, who wrote the original play. The best performance comes from the sharp-faced Carolyn Jones as a talent agent who's all brightness on the outside, and shrieking loneliness within.
