Rodeos have been infrequently featured on film, perhaps because they seem so specifically American. One can remember Arena and The Lusty Men from the Fifties, but little else. Recently though, the genre has been making something of a comeback, what with Junior Bonner, J W Coop and When the Legends Die. In this story, Don Murray plays a Sioux Indian who was once a great rider, but has now been reduced to rodeo clown (shades of The Blue Angel). It's a very bitter and dramatic story, with good roles for Rip Torn and Sherry Jackson, who was once a child actress in The Lion and the Horse, The Miracle of Fatima and Trouble Along the Way.
