The three major talents connected with this science-fiction thriller were all on the threshold of hugely successful careers. James Caan and Robert Duvall later appeared together in Coppola's The Godfather and Peckinpah's Killer Elite, while director Robert Altman went on to make M*A*S*H, Nashville and, more recently, The Player, Short Cuts and the controversial Prêt-à-Porter .
