This adaptation of a Tennessee Williams novel about a middle-aged actress falling for a young Italian gigolo has a bizarre, rather chilling charm. Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty give interesting performances in these roles, but the film is stolen from both of them by Lotte Lenya as the widow's wasp-tongued friend.
