Superior domestic drama with compelling performances from Ed Asner (an alcoholic surgeon), Gary Cole (his drug addict son) and Barbara Barrie (his despairing wife). The fierce trading of truth and denial by the father and son in the grip of chronic illness provides plenty of dramatic sparks. Director Stuart Millar doesn't miss a beat as the conflicts and confrontations grow.
