A moody and rather unsettling RKO noir thriller which looks as though it were written with studio contractees Jane Greer or Faith Domergue in mind. But Greer had just left the studio and, when Jean Simmons arrived from England, studio boss Howard Hughes, after months of not knowing what to do with her, gave her the disturbed murderess in Angel Face. Icily effective she is too, ensnaring poor Robert Mitchum, who was at one time or another the fall guy for pretty well all the studio's formidable stock of femmes fatales.
