Thunderhead - the son of Flicka in previous horsey hits - is seen again in this film as the head of a herd of wild horses, rearing up on the skyline, beating off a pack of wolves and making off with boyish hero Robert Arthur's best mare. It's enchanting stuff - with Britain's Peggy Cummins (as a ranch owner's niece who falls for Arthur - as the character played in two previous films by Roddy McDowall) way out west as an interesting bonus. And there are some exciting trotting scenes towards the end. The strong cast also includes Charles Coburn (as Cummins' uncle), Lloyd Nolan (as Arthur's father) and Burl Ives.
