Timothy Bottoms is an actor whose career has proved disappointing since his key role in the thriller Rollercoaster. He had shown great promise in such films as The Last Picture Show, but international fame was to elude him. He's excellent, however, in this very strongly cast Disney TV movie about the young American who, blinded in a gym accident in 1927 Nashville, became the first person in the country to be paired up with a seeing eye dog. The prejudice he encountered from those around him is shocking and shameful. There is sterling support from veterans Eva Marie Saint, Patricia Neal and Ernest Borgnine, plus (in her pre-L. A. Law days) Susan Dey. TRIVIA: Bottoms is currently enjoying great success in the US in a TV series based on the (fictional) misadventures of President Bush whom, in middle age, he much resembles.
