This film springs a rare surprise: a Hollywood comedy about the generation gap that is actually very funny. Every character has a personality of its own. Only the sex jokes are sometimes clumsy. James Garner, friendly with his teenage son like never before (while Mum Debbie Reynolds is fending off the advances of a Riviera playboy) even takes to wearing his offspring's hippie neck-charm. The hotel clerk is horrified. 'It symbolises love and peace,' snarls Garner. 'Y'wanna make something of it? '(DQ)
