After the lunatic excesses of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, square-jawed hero Gil Gerard returns to Earth as the trouble-shooting manager of a high-tech West Coast airport. Clearly based on Arthur Hailey's successful Airport formula, this anecdotal drama has all the familiar ingredients: a pilot (Robert Vaughn) under pressure, a control tower operative (Bill Bixby) having conniptions, a waif (Danny Ponce) stranded at the airport, and a bomb aboard the plane. It's a bit surprising that the irreverent Airplane! comedies haven't laid this particular genre to rest but, even so, it's almost reassuring to see George Kennedy (who featured in all four Airport movies) among the suffering passengers.
