With Richard Burton as a doctor who has to decide whether to end the suffering of his best friend (James Dunn), who is ailing from Hodgkins disease and on the way out, the plot of this small town-set drama weaves in and out of various sexual exploits, as Burton begins an affair (at Dunn's behest) with the dying man's wife (Barbara Rush). For the locals (where? ) however, things start to look premeditated and the police are called in. In the meantime, Angie Dickinson is in the background pining for Burton too and Burton's mother has also been unfaithful to her spouse. Good acting by Dunn in particular, but the whole thing is far too near to soap opera shenanigans.
