Action galore but that's all for western fans in this disappointingly written adaptation of Charles Marquis Warren's classic novel about a cavalry officer (stalwart Gregory Peck) who goes to hell and back to regain the respect of his men and his girl. Not the first classic western novel Hollywood has messed up, nor the last. Only one of their mistakes here was not to make the film in colour. But the whole blood and guts feel of the original is reduced to routine adventure.
