Not the Cecil B DeMille classic from 1936, but a Sixties remake starring Don Murray as Wild Bill Hickok and Abby Dalton as a lively Calamity Jane. In its own right, the film is merely an OK oater, but compared to DeMille's sweeping epic, it looks downright poor. Murray doesn't really convince as Hickok, although Dalton is fine, as is Guy Stockwell as Buffalo Bill. The most interesting bit of casting for today's audiences will be that of Leslie (Naked Gun) Nielsen as Colonel Custer! Mind you, this was during Nielsen's serious acting period, so the comic possibilities can now only be imagined!
