A motor-racing drama made by Henry Hathaway, a master of action and adventure since the mid-Thirties when he made The Lives of a Bengal Lancer. The main character, well played by Kirk Douglas, who revels in such casting, is as unpleasant a `hero' one could hope to find before the days of angry young men. And the hair-raising routine of the dedicated driver's life, always wondering whether the next race will be his last, is perfectly captured. Gilbert Roland and Cesar Romero, two `Latin lovers' from Hollywood's golden days of the Thirties, are both impressive as two drivers who are almost over the hill. Even so, it's Katy Jurado, so good in a small role as a driver's wife, who steals the show from the stars. British title: Such Men Are Dangerous.
