Robby the Robot is the cute little helper of professor Walter Pidgeon and his daughter Anne Francis on the planet Altair IV in this hit pioneering sci-fi thriller that's now a cult classic held in great affection by sci-fi fans the world over. It's made with huge imagination and visual flair throughout, but the climax is particularly well done: only Leslie Nielsen lets the side down in a stagey turn from the days before he was intentionally funny. Vaguely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest, it was the first mainstream film with music entirely performed by electronic instruments.
