Martin Scorsese's scorching indictment of the conditions that create violence, and a mesmerising evocation of night-time New York in the Seventies. Robert De Niro is superb as Travis Bickle, the psychotic taxi driver whose environment and insomnia combine to drive him into insanity while Jodie Foster is simply amazing as a 12-year-old prostitute.

Unbelivable film which really depicts the night time scene very well. Powerful and real because Scorcese here is telling of what could happen with an average Joe. DeNiro as ever is brilliant and the script is intense, gritty and psychotic. Classic Scorsese.

Compared to other Scorsese pictures, most notably Goodfellas, the running time of Taxi Driver is quite short. That doesn't change the feeling of a slow paced brooding film. The bloody finale is an ever-present possibility with the tortured mind of Travis Bickle. A stunning film with an iconic performance from De Niro and a memorable cameo from Scorsese. Everybody has a bit of Travis boiling beneath the surface - that's what makes this film so timeless and watchable. A must see.
