Interesting biopic about black racer Wendell Scott (played excellently by Richard Pryor) who was determined, after World War Two, to become the first NASCAR stock-car racer. Against a backdrop of repression and bigotry, and spanning a period of 25 years, Scott battles against all the odds (not without a sense of purpose and humour) to fulfil his dream and participate in a championship race. Pryor, showing he can really act, is the whole show. A great cast includes Beau Bridges, Pam Grier, Cleavon Little, Vincent Gardenia and Richie Havens.
