A light-hearted look (with serious undertones) at the life of an ageing Hollywood stuntman. Although the stuntmen do their stuff in ripsnorting style, the script lacks the insight and invention to give it the stature to rise above a formula action film. Burt Reynolds turns on the casual charm in the title role, and is involved in the film's best sequence - where Hooper rides alone round the corral outside his ranch-house at night.
