There are almost as many story threads as waves in this pilot film for the popular series. Writers Michael Berk and Douglas Schwartz present a barrage of stories about lifeguards who have been on the beach too long and those who haven't been there long enough. Good efforts from attractive Shawn Weatherly, and from Parker Stevenson and Gina Hecht as a couple whose marriage is menaced by the attentions of an obsessed young girl. Dependable Richard Jaeckel is the best of a supporting cast in which you'll also spot promising pre-teen actress Kellie Martin.
