Tim Burton's noirish take on the smash-hit comic-book legend starred an unlikely Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader. Out went the camp gimmicks of the celebrated TV series and in came Anton Furst's sublime Gotham City set design and Jack Nicholson as a splendidly unhinged Joker. Kim Basinger provided the smouldering love interest and Prince a funked-up soundtrack. Trivia: Nicholson received a percentage of the gross on the film - around $60m.

Without a shadow of a bat... sorry... shadow of a doubt, my favourite film ever made. The sadistic Joker perfectly portrayed by Jack Nicholson, who himself echoes insanity. This film oozes sex-appeal, and is by-far the best comic-book adaption.
