Any seaside rep would give its eye teeth to have a company like this: Jeremy Irons, Jenny Seagrove, Patsy Kensit, Richard Briers, Gareth Hunt, Prunella Scales, Lionel Jeffries, Sylvia Syms and Alexandra Pigg. The company's director is none other than Anthony Hopkins, sporting an impeccable Welsh accent (as well he might) in this adaptation of Alan Ayckbourn's play which, under Michael Winner's direction, provides pretty good fun and proves, perhaps, that Winner's real talent lies in comedy. Hopkins is superb as the little Welsh Hitler, Irons vastly amusing as the shy Yorkshire widower turned local Lothario. But no-one can take the film away from Prunella Scales as Hopkins' puddingy wife, having a late, late fling with Irons. Occasionally, the film's characters grow too large for life, but overall writer and director's affection for the subject shines through. No great movie, but very British and Winner's best effort in ages.
