This winning feel-good fantasy is one of a kind. Kevin Costner plays an Iowa farmer who hears voices that tell him to build a baseball field in the middle of one of his corn fields. When he does, a ghost team of legendary outlawed players appears. Further voices drive him to locate a self-exiled author (James Earl Jones) and an obscure doctor (Burt Lancaster) who missed playing major league baseball by a whisker. The story makes for a bizarre movie, but one which frequently touches the heart and spirit and has a winning line in magic. The baseball field was built for the movie in Iowa and after filming a shop was built to sell souvenirs.
