Monty Python meets Sinbad the Sailor without the laughs. Fashionably photographed, mainly in brown and white, this is the scattershot story of how Erik attempted to end the Age of Warfare by besting the dragon of the North Sea, blowing the Horn Resounding in the legendary island of Hy-Brasil (Atlantis), awakening the gods and getting them to release the sun that has been swallowed by Fenrir the wolf. Sounds fun, doesn't it? Alas, although there are a few chuckles (mainly provided by the dry delivery of John Cleese as villainous Halfdan the Black), the vehicle proves as unwieldy as a Viking sword, as cumbersome as the Viking clothing and as ramshackle as a Viking hut. Performances range from exaggerated to hysterical. And just what is Tim Robbins, of all people, doing starring in this?
