An adult comedy only in the sense that there's a lot of coarse comic business with an inflatable doll, this vehicle for Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones leans more towards the world of a lewder 'Carry On' humour than that of 'Lucky Jim', out of which its leading character, Henry Wilt (Rhys Jones) seems to have stepped. Murder and mayhem ensue, but mirth is largely absent, notably in a bungled ending which should have been hilarious. Smith and Jones do their things, Alison Steadman is gorgeous. Bright and breezy, and the team's best film work to date, 'Wilt' still seriously lacks the roots in reality that all quality comedy needs.
