Supposing two hippies had lived wild in the jungles of Central America for 20 years, growing and smoking marijuana and eating fish, only to suddenly re-emerge into the world when they stumble across a CIA plot to start a war in their new-found paradise. The possibilities for fun are practically endless; alas, directors Aaron Russo and David Greenwalt have missed almost all of them in this tiresome film whose budget seems barely to extend beyond the sparsely furnished interiors of people's flats. Its people, too, are no fun to be with - stolid Eric Roberts, whining Julie Hagerty, bland Robert Carradine and irksome Cheech Marin, once of the equally resistible Cheech and Chong. Supporting players fare better, notably Andrea Martin as a progressively drunker social climber who shares a Laurel and Hardy relationship with tight-lipped husband Buck Henry when it comes to putting on jackets. The film's impassioned pleas for conservation, though, are likely to fall on deaf ears as well as sleepy eyes.
