Well might the makers of this farrago thank the North American Loon Fund in the credits. Only they perhaps would have been loony enough to believe they could make any money from a story that revolves entirely around a not-quite-all-there family that can't make up its mind whether or not to shoot a horse. Personally, we'd have shot writer-director Sam Shepard instead, especially for giving us so many dingy shots of trees to pad his film out to an interminable hour and a half. He gets strident performances from Jessica Lange, Charles Durning, Tess Harper and Patricia Arquette, though he does give them dialogue that never manages to sound like things people would really say.
