Another in the still-popular line of female buddy movies, this time about three waitresses working at a pizza house in the New England fishing town of Mystic. They're all part of the local Portuguese fishing community, which explains their restlessness at the all-too-real possibilities of becoming trapped for life in one small township. Lili Taylor, Annabeth Gish and Julia Roberts deliver knockout performances in these three roles and it's a shame their efforts aren't supported by a better script. Believable dialogue and logical plot and character developments are not, alas, on the menu at the Mystic Pizza, though there are some foolish sex scenes for those with a taste for them. Never mind, our dynamite girl trio serves up a feast of fine acting between courses to help you forget that the main meal has fallen flat.
