Paramount's first solo vehicle for Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis set them on a fabulous seven-year roll of film success before they went their separate ways. Their stereotypes were already established: Martin the smooth-talking girl-chaser, Lewis as what, in later parlance, would be called the nerd. Not their most wonderful: there are still some rough edges, but a few quite funny comedy routines mingling with the less comfortable moments. well. The film's big song hit was 'The Navy Gets the Gravy and the Army Gets the Beans', but it all looks very stagey today.
