A flag-waving wartime spy thriller chiefly notable for giving Conrad Veidt a dual role. The first feature film directed by Jules Dassin, who went on bigger and better things, notably Brute Force, The Naked City and Rififi. The pace he sets here is too slow, and the film is better served by Veidt's excellent acting and by Harry Stradling's moody black-and-white camerawork.
