Fancy a psychological up-market version of The Sting? Then come with writer-director David Mamet to the con-man's kingdom, in a sleazy corner of the city, called the House of Games. Psychiatrist Lindsay Crouse enters its portals, to become enmeshed in a world where the swiftness of the lip deceives the ear. You, the viewer, may think yourself a step ahead of her but be careful, as master-puppeteer Mamet is inclined to change the rules as he goes along. Clever it is, and fun too, with appropriately strange, stylised performances by players who seem almost under hypnosis.
