The equivalent of an Ealing comedy, Eighties-style, this is a quintessentially British romp which knocked spots off most other comedies of its year, even though it outstays its welcome a bit towards the end. Ian Littleton, played by tiny Tyler Butterworth as a cross between Norman Wisdom and Ian Carmichael, enrols at Chumley's chocolate factory, with little hope of success as he has two left everything. Little hope that is until he accidentally plummets three workmen from a trestle into a chocolate vat, which devours them noisily within seconds, producing a new, and wildly-successful strain of chocolate. 'Quite unusual,' offers one tester. `Got a bit of body in it.' Throw in (but not in the vat, please) wonderful Vanessa Redgrave, enjoying herself immensely as a predatory Maltese widow, and you have a surefire recipe for a tasty comic morsel.
