At the centre of the story is Abby Quinn (Moore), a pregnant woman who has lost one child during pregnancy and is now fearful of losing another.

The force behind these bizarre events is a single man named David (Jurgen Prochnow). But he is no mere mortal - he is a messenger of the apocalypse.

David and Abby cross paths when he responds to an advert that she and her husband (Michael Biehn) have taken out for a room they're trying to rent.

But this is no coincidence, as David has plans for Abby and her unborn child.
