The Hollywood Western was in trouble - until the Brat Pack rode to the rescue. And a very good job they make, too, of these early adventures of Billy the Kid. The slightly long-winded storytelling's offset by plenty of tough action, personable performances by Emilio Estevez as The Kid and Kiefer Sutherland as his poetic sidekick Doc plus some Wild Bunch-style slow-motion at the climactic shootout. Tom Cruise and Brooke Shields have cameos.
