Although made before Big, Vice Versa and 18 Again! , this age-reversal comedy started, time-wise, from the back of the field in Britain and finished a distant fourth. Seen in isolation, this Dudley Moore comedy won't look too bad on TV; as it was, three previous tellings of the tall tale only exposed its comic situations as embarrassing and its father-and-son characters more fun as themselves than when they switch bodies. Both Moore (as a famous surgeon) and Kirk Cameron (his truly average son) seem far too outspoken in their new identities; surely both would have been more cautious in the circumstances. Margaret Colin is on good form as a maneater who can't believe Moore's new-found enthusiasm for women, but the film's tiresome and illogical developments soon drain our interest, and there have been few entries into the genre since, apart from Disney's remorseless flogging of its Freaky Friday franchise.
