Having gone underground in Subway, director Luc Besson went underwater. And there sure is a lot of the big blue (sea, that is) in this story of the lifelong rivalry between two deep-sea divers. The tragic ending is obvious always and pretty silly at that. Still, Rosanna Arquette is as engagingly buck-toothed and shapely as ever and does a pretty good level best to hold it all together for nigh on two hours. She gets little help from Jean-Marc Barr as the haunted diver who just wants to go off and play with the dolphins, and Griffin Dunne is in all too briefly as her New York boss. Fortunately the lugubrious Jean Reno is also around but, even with locations in Greece, Sicily, New York, Peru and the French Riviera, this film may make you long for a holiday in more ways than one.
