Robert `Freddy Kruger` Englund turns film director, but on the evidence of this one he was wise to return to Elm Street. A horror film in which almost nothing happens for 50 minutes, it eventually develops into a sort of Little Phone of Horrors, with a hero in direct descent from Rick Moranias' Seymour. Dial 976 EVIL and, before you know it,your mind has been consumed with evil thoughts and you start developing green toenails and looking like Dorian Gray's portrait in the attic. Clearly this state of affairs can't last, and towards the end Englund does stage some nice tableaux with visions of Hell breaking out all over the place. But it's too little evil and too late. Just about worth a look for horror fans, if only to spot Englund's own cameo, and for Sandy Dennis` extraordinary performance as Aunt Lucy.
