A visually attractive but fairly silly sex thriller about a petty thief who becomes obsessed with the woman he's just robbed, when the passionate nature of the diary that forms part of his booty reveals that, despite her seemingly happy marriage, she is ripe for an affair. The leading characters somehow lack the flesh and blood to stir the emotions, although a driving music score endeavours to give the story a depth of feeling that other departments fail to justify. Steven Bauer as the thief has a handsome streetwise appeal, but John Getz as the husband who neglects his wife has a thankless role, not least because it gives him such lines as "You're just about the only person in my life I didn't make up"!
