It's hard to believe that any comedy starring Richard Pryor and John Candy could be as unfunny as this seventh film version of the oft-told story of a man who has to spend $1million a day for a month to get his hands on a $300m inheritance. Blame director Walter Hill - best known as a man of action rather than words in thrillers such as 48 Hrs and The Warriors - who hasn't the lightness of touch for comedy. Pryor's film career had been in the doldrums for some time and the failure of this remake didn't help to resuscitate it. Playing the lottery is infinitely more fun than having to sit through this.
