Something about the primitive in man clearly fascinates director John Boorman. Several of his films have dealt with the subject in one way or another and here's one which actually has primitivism as its theme. A six-year-old boy is kidnapped by an Amazon Indian tribe while his father (Powers Boothe) is building a dam in the middle of the jungle. Ten years later, their paths cross again... Unusual locations in Brazil and vigorous action scenes towards the end boost this rather slow-moving film, although the murky Eastman Colour photography isn't much help, rendering this particular emerald forest more of a slate green. Expect a sort of A Man Called Jaguar and you won't be far out.
