When a couple adopt a mysterious boy, little do they realize that he is in fact a robot commissioned by the Pentagon as its most powerful secret weapon.
The action begins when government scientists come to bring him 'home'.
This lively fantasy-adventure about a `robot' boy, the product of artificial insemination and a computerised brain, is just like a Disney film of the Fifties with the addition of computers and scientific hardware.
Escaping into the outside world with the help of a sympathetic and soon-despatched scientist, Daryl (nicely played by Barret Oliver) soon lands in the laps of foster-parents Hurt and McKean.
Their fondness for such a well-behaved boy is somewhat tempered by the fact that he doesn't seem to need their friendship.
Before scientists intervene to retrieve the young prototype, and the inevitable chase sequence begins for its final 20 minutes, the film is as enjoyable as can be.
