Controversial drama about a woman who turns the tables on a rapist is a big-screen version of a 1982 play by William Mastrosimone, who also writes the screenplay. Farrah Fawcett does extend her range in this part, turning in one of her most persuasive performances, though (like Charles Bronson's Death Wish appearances) its grimness tends to be unrelenting and singlemindedly downbeat, producing a depressing movie that mostly lacks subtlety. Perhaps another hand should have adapted the screenplay, and may original stage actress Susan Sarandon would have produced more as the heroine if she'd been cast in the movie. Interesting and often involving for all that, and James Russo is an asset as the baddie.
