This legal caper thriller is a bit like a highly superior TV movie; Robert Redford, as the assistant DA, is at the centre of it, but has to concede the acting honours to Debra Winger, who's outstanding as a gutsy lawyer determined to root out the truth about the blaze that, 18 years previously, killed the painter father of the tall blonde (Daryl Hannah) currently on a murder charge. Good entertainment, not too demanding, directed with polish by Ivan Reitman of Ghost Busters fame. Although a shade light on credibility, the story's so craftily contrived around a few set-pieces that a lot of it works.
